Why won't or can't politicians work together as the country wants?

Why , as it is looking like a Hung Parliament, won't the Politicians put aside Ego's and Party affiliations to work together to get the Country on its feet and running, its what the Country wants and needs, the best of all the Politicians to work as a Unit?
