It is important to note the difference between acclimation and adaptation. This experiment was mainly concerned about how alligators respond when put in different environments and it was observed that environmental factors play a significant role in physiology of vertebrates. Nevertheless, physiological changes can lead to evolutionary adaptation and possibly extinctions of those species who do not overcome environmental obstacles such as fluctuating Oxygen level in the atmosphere. The design of this experiment provides insight into role of environmental conditions on physiology of vertebrates. By understanding nature and its variations, one can understand reasons as to why species might undergo evolutionary adaptation and why some go extinct. This experiment points out a very interesting factor when it comes to studying physiology of extinct vertebrates; that is, one should always take into account specific environmental conditions that the extinct vertebrates were subjected to. This fact is crucial to understanding evolutionary adaptation and extinction for many species.
