Trying to find and apartment in toronto but bad credit?

I've pretty bad credit the last apartment wouldn't accept me unless I had a co-signer.. What can I do to convince them that I could pay on time? I'm on odsp, ontario disability and get $1040 a month and trying to find and apartment at the $800-900 range. Also, I just made $6000 in poker in 4 days, though I don't know if this can be considered steady income and then theres the problem of hiding it away from the goverment.
