Why aren't the spermatids half of the haploid after undergoing meiosis II ?

I thought that after undergoing meiosis, the number of chromosomes will decrease by half? Since secondary spermatocyte is already at haploid(n=23), after undergoing meiosis II to form spermatid, it will be half of 23, isn't it? However, spermatids still carry number of chromosomes of 23. I am confused. =(
