How much can depression effect your memory?

Depressed for last 3yrs, began with loss of a child. My memory is not helping me get any better! I will not remember typing this within the next month. At an extreme low, broke, jobless, soon to be homeless, have 2 living kids, that are mostly living with ex. Recently, dr not sure if MS is something else to add to my list of woes! HELP!!!
